A few years ago, I had the opportunity to attend Harvard Business School through a Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) program. This photo was taken outside Tata Hall, a place known for rigorous thinking, sharp dialogue, and leaders who are deeply serious about their responsibility.

At the time, it felt like a milestone. Looking back now, it feels more like a marker on a much longer road.

What I didn’t fully realize then was that the most meaningful lessons wouldn’t announce themselves immediately. They wouldn’t show up as bold “aha” moments or perfectly packaged frameworks. They would surface slowly, quietly, and persistently over time.

**The Value of Stepping Out to See Clearly**

When you’re leading a business, especially one that’s growing, evolving, or reinventing itself, it’s easy to live inside urgency. Decisions stack on decisions. You’re solving for today while trying to design for tomorrow.

Being at Harvard Business School wasn’t about escaping that reality. It was about stepping far enough outside of it to see it clearly.

The classroom experience forced me to pause and examine how I was thinking, not just what I was doing. It challenged assumptions I didn’t even realize I had. It made me question habits that had formed simply because they’d worked before.

That pause turned out to be incredibly valuable.

**Leadership Is More About Thinking Than Knowing**

One of the most enduring lessons from that experience was this: the strongest leaders aren’t defined by how much they know. They’re defined by how they think.

They ask better questions.

They hold tension longer.

They resist the urge to oversimplify complex problems.

At the time, I was hungry for answers. Today, I appreciate how much more powerful it is to develop discernment.

Over the years since, I’ve noticed that the influence of that experience shows up less in what I say and more in how I decide. It’s present when I slow a conversation down instead of rushing to resolution. When I prioritize clarity over speed. When I choose long-term integrity over short-term wins.

**Growth Has a Long Echo**

One of the most surprising things about meaningful education is how long it continues to work on you.

The real impact of Harvard Business School didn’t happen when I left campus. It happened months later, when a difficult decision felt different than it used to. It happened years later, when I recognized patterns earlier and trusted my instincts more deeply. It happened when I became more comfortable sitting in uncertainty instead of trying to control it.

Some experiences don’t change you overnight.

They change how you show up over time.

**The Role of YPO and the Power of Proximity**

Being part of this experience through YPO added another important layer. Learning alongside other leaders, each navigating their own complexities, reminded me that leadership is rarely about perfection.

It’s about responsibility.

It’s about awareness.

It’s about evolution.

There’s something powerful about proximity to people who are equally committed to growth, not just success. Those conversations, perspectives, and shared moments continue to influence how I think about leadership today.

**Carrying It Forward**

I don’t look at this experience as something I “completed.” I see it as something I carry.

It informs how I build.

How I lead teams.

How I think about scale, culture, and impact.

Most importantly, it reinforced a belief I hold strongly now: learning is not a phase of leadership. It’s a permanent posture.

Standing outside Tata Hall that day, I couldn’t have articulated all of this. But leadership has a way of revealing meaning in hindsight.

And this was one of those moments that stayed with me, quietly shaping what came next.
